MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Stan “Koz” Kozlowski

Congratulations to our own Stan “Koz” Kozlowski on his retirement as Chief of the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department! While he is stepping down from his role as chief, Koz will continue to serve as an active member of FVFD—and we’re lucky to have him remain an active, dedicated member of the Galveston County CISM Team as well. For many years, Koz has been a steady and trusted presence for peers in need, offering his experience, wisdom, and compassion to both his department and our team. We honor his incredible leadership, his decades of service, and his ongoing commitment to helping others. Congratulations, Koz—you’ve earned this celebration, and we’re grateful you’re still with us on the journey!

Gean Leonard has been appointed as the newest member of our CISM Board of Directors, stepping in to fill the seat previously held by Mike Guarino. 

Gean brings a wealth of experience and dedication to our team. He had an impressive 30-year career with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, including 11 years as Chief Deputy under the esteemed Sheriff Joe Max Taylor. When Sheriff Taylor retired in 2001, Gean was elected as Sheriff, continuing his distinguished career in public service. During his tenure, he upheld and expanded the legacy of exceptional leadership and service, leaving a lasting impact on Galveston County. Gean’s unwavering commitment to safety, justice, and the well-being of our community and residents is truly commendable.

What makes Gean such a valuable addition to our board is not just his professional accomplishments but also his deep passion and compassion for people. Throughout his career, Gean showed remarkable empathy and dedication to fostering strong, resilient communities—values that align perfectly with the mission of our team.
